I built an Astro version of the nevskii.me portfolio to test a move from Framer while preserving its projects, languages and visual character. The task was to restore the behaviour of an existing website, rather than choose a new template.

That is exactly what I tested with nevskii.me. I needed a path from a Framer portfolio to an Astro website with file-based content. The portfolio already had its own visual character, projects, and English and Russian versions. Starting with another template would have been technically easier, and would have meant doing a different job.

The “nevskii.me — first screen” view preserves the project’s real material and design.

You migrate behaviour, not a single screenshot

A project card must open the right case study. An existing URL must find its content. A cover must retain its crop. Light and dark themes must remain recognisable. Even an ordinary long caption can break a tidy copy of the homepage.

In the Astro version, cases are structured data and localised text is separated from templates. Project, contact, CV and licence routes are treated as a contract with the previous website. A particular photograph or page URL is also part of that contract, though these rarely make it into a polished story about changing stacks.

The “nevskii.me — internal section” view preserves the project’s real material and design.

For me, this is a useful test of AI development. An agent quickly reproduces the visible pattern; then it needs the less photogenic requirements explained: do not lose a link, do not mix languages, do not pass off an approximate translation as approved copy.

Why it still says “preview”

The prepared Astro successor remained a separate noindex version. At the recorded stage, the main nevskii.me website continued to run on Framer. Having a working new website is not the same as permission to replace the old one.

This is not the portfolio ending people usually draw: a rocket, a launch, everyone hugging. But it describes real work. You can prove a migration is possible, keep a ready path forward and avoid handing the business an unnecessary moment of truth on a Friday evening.

At the stage described, the Astro version remained a separate preview. It demonstrates that migration is possible and provides material for comparison with Framer. The archived screens in this article belong to that stage, not to every later version of the portfolio.
