Five guys arrived in Uoyan at night. They found the police station and told the officer on duty that two of their comrades remained in the mountains. They don’t know what’s wrong with them. Rescuers must be sent urgently.

The next day, rescuers arrived from Severobaikalsk. “Show me a map of the route,” asked the head of the detachment, Viktor Karpov. “The map was left with the group leader, who is there in the mountains,” the tourists answered. - Okay, lead us. However, the guys spent half a day looking for a place to exit the route. Then they could not determine which spur of the ridge they were on and the name of the river along which they walked. In a word, they had very vague ideas about the place of travel.

It turns out that only the manager had both the map and information about the route. Where they were going, why, what they wanted to achieve or conquer, none of those who remained knew. Only on the second day did rescuers barely reach the scene of the tragedy. As it turned out, the guys were walking along the steep slope of the ridge without insurance.

The leader is in front wearing sneakers with plastic soles. Stepping from the gravel onto the wet grass, he slid along a gentle hollow towards the thundering waterfall below. Desperate attempts to hold on did not yield results. He didn’t even have time to unfasten his backpack.

Nikolai, that was the name of the leader, in a matter of seconds flew along this hollow and fell into the canyon. No matter how many times the guys shouted or called, the comrade did not respond. Then the most experienced of them, Igor Zhivaev, collected all the available ropes, made a chest harness and began to climb down. The guys never saw or heard him again.

The roar of the waterfall drowned out all voices. The remaining group waited for the rest of the day. We spent the night. The morning did not please them either.

The rope was taut. What happened to their comrade down there was unclear. They could not help them without ropes or special equipment. And the group made the only right decision: they went back along the route they had taken for help.

Rescuers piece by piece reconstructed the picture of the tragedy. It turned out that I’s rope got tangled and did not reach the bottom of the canyon. He hovered, trying to free the rope, but the harness was compressing his chest. He couldn’t breathe; his strength was draining away quickly.

There was only one way out: to cut the rope and fall into the waterfall… but for some reason he did not take advantage of this chance of salvation. Perhaps he simply failed: all his strength went into freeing himself from the rope. Igor suffocated in his own harness under the weight of his body. Nikolai fell into a waterfall.

Apparently, he lost consciousness from the blow and could not emerge. So, the reasons for the tragedy are obvious: the first is the complete ignorance of the participants in the hike about the conditions of the route; the second is the lack of necessary equipment for such travel; third — violation of safety regulations when passing difficult sections; The fourth is the amazing carelessness of the leaders of the Moscow City Tourist Club, who released such a group on the route without the necessary documents, without the necessary equipment and in the complete absence of information about the route. And finally, the last reason for the tragedy is ignorance of the rules obliging all groups of amateur tourists to register with local rescue teams. This is where they could get the necessary information about the route.

And, perhaps, with such equipment of the group, the head of the local rescue team might not have allowed the group to go on the route. At the same time, offer them another, less dangerous route and thereby prevent the death of the children. After all, we need the cult of a beautiful, difficult and… accident-free hike.
