The summer season is coming to an end, and more and more often, raising my head from the beds, I direct my gaze to the mountains. They are literally nearby, across the river. This is one of the most picturesque corners of Buryatia — the ancient Khamar-Daban. It stretches for hundreds of kilometers, the highest peak of the ridge is Mount Khan-Ula (2,371 m), translated as King Mountain or Lord Mountain.
Due to difficult weather conditions in this area, not every tourist group was able to climb it; many attempts ended in failure. A group of tourists and I managed to climb to the top in August 1992. Since then, a piece of quartzite brought from the mountain has been kept in a closet at home. Now the Transbaikal autumn is in full swing, and the Khamar-Daban ridge is painted with a mosaic of bright colors.
