We are now increasingly talking about a healthy lifestyle. And it turns out that among us there are people for whom this has become the norm of behavior. We met with one of the representatives of this cohort in the editorial office. Read about it below.
Vladimir Aleksandrovich Nevsky about himself and some problems of healthy lifestyle. I myself am a summer resident with 30 years of experience. But today I don’t want to talk about how to sow carrots, beets or parsley and get a “pound” harvest. Our conversation will focus on how to maintain your health the way nature gave you.
So I’ll start with myself. For decades now, I’ve started my day by working up a sweat. This happened during my student years, then while working at Buryatenergo and now, when I became a pensioner. If I’m at home, I meet every morning in the city garden, summer and winter, since I live nearby.
If I’m at the dacha, then in a pine forest, where I inhale the resinous aroma of pine needles on familiar forest paths. I used to run at least 5 kilometers every morning. And even when going on long business trips, I took sports equipment with me and ran. I ran in Moscow and Leningrad, and ran in Novosibirsk.
Currently, I have switched to walking, using its most effective method — the so-called Nordic walking. But I’ll say more about this below. I do exercises by doing squats, push-ups, stretching, etc. At the gym, which is located in our yard, I use a treadmill, pedometer and other exercise equipment.
Upon return, a contrast shower. I finish my shower with cold water. After this breakfast. An important point is to completely avoid fried foods.
But, I must admit, sometimes I really want to eat three fried eggs, fried in lard, which I adore, and golden crispy potatoes. However, the main food is chicken soup, all sorts of cereals with butter, steamed sea fish and large quantities of vegetable salads. I usually fill them with unrefined sunflower or linseed oil. You can also use olive oil — who can afford it.
And any porridge is always richly flavored with herbs: in the summer — parsley, celery, dill from the garden, and in the winter — the same dried herbs. Green tea, black bread. Fermented milk products are useful. I feel fine on the eve of my 80th birthday.
The body muscles, trained over many, many years, still have strength, which I regularly maintain. And only “male strength,” I laugh, betrays my age. I don’t suffer from insomnia. I agree that you need to sleep at least 8 hours a day, teaching yourself to go to bed and get up at the same time every day.
From personal experience, I will say that the best time to sleep is from 22:00 to 6:00. Going to bed and getting up at the same time every day will make sure that you do not need an alarm clock that hits your ears every time. Having told briefly about myself, I will dwell on some problems of a healthy lifestyle. Many people have a desire to engage in physical education and their health.
But people don’t know where to turn, where to find an instructor who could lead them. Here I will make a small digression. For several years now, a service of yard physical education instructors has been formed in Ulan-Ude. However, according to the largest estimates, there is almost 10 thousand of the population per instructor.
So keep in mind, a yard instructor probably won’t be knocking on your door anytime soon. So my advice is don’t wait. Five years ago, my old friend Stanislav Konstantinenko and I picked up ski poles and, having shortened them, according to the method, to a height of 0.7 of height, we began to master Nordic walking. At this time, all of Europe was already walking around with sticks, and not with simple ski sticks, but with special branded ones with a set of screwed-on accessories for them.
But at first we managed without branded ones, the main thing was to go. Having gained some experience in this useful activity, I wrote an article “Nordic walking — the path to health”, published in the Healthy Lifestyle newsletter No. 6 for 2008. Our experience, judging by the letters we received, was of interest to many. When walking, endurance, strength, mobility, coordination of movements are trained, and the possibility of injury due to a fall is almost completely eliminated.
During stops along the way, poles can be used for strength exercises and stretching. All this is useful for older people and not only. For summer residents, this is an opportunity to break away from their garden beds for a while. After all, when a person uses only a small part of his body muscles during work, he quickly gets tired.
In the process of walking with sticks, up to 90 percent of all the muscles in your body are loaded. Naturally, the question arises: how to get on this wonderful path of health? In the city of Ulan-Ude, I know of at least three groups. One of them has been headed by Lyubov Darmaeva (Oktyabrsky district) since November last year.
The other is under the leadership of Vera Aleksandrovna Lubsanova (Zheleznodorozhny district). The group first met in November 2011. A positive aspect in the practice of this group is that, in addition to hiking with sticks in the vicinity of the city of Ulan-Ude, Vera Aleksandrovna systematically organizes trips, for example, to the mysterious Tugnui Valley and the Merkit Fortress, to the sacred places of Buryatia, to the Shaman Mountains, and a Hunnic settlement. Indeed, I want people not only to learn Nordic walking, but also to get to know their small homeland — Buryatia.
I really like the saying “Get to know your homeland on the road and you will love it.” I would like to add that on the initiative of this group and its member Andrei Sunknev, the leader of the Great Baikal Trail movement, this year’s plan includes the construction of a 7.0-kilometer pedestrian trail according to international standards from the ski base on Arshan “Snezhinka” to the Ethnographic Museum on Verkhnyaya Berezovka. It is expected that the first stage of the trail will be completed by City Day. Get ready, Nordic walking lovers, to be the first to take this ecological walking trail.
A few words about the third group, which emerged at the end of 2012. Its leader is yard instructor Vitaly Glushko. Its peculiarity is that this group is gerontological (about old age) and unites people of advanced age. We can only be happy for them.
And one last thing. I do not exclude that in the future it is necessary to unite all lovers of this powerful means of healing under the flag of a voluntary society. Good health and good luck to everyone!
